Muito se aponta o dedo às más
práticas ambientais e pouco se dá a conhecer das boas práticas. No livro ‘Os
novos exploradores lusos e a aventura dos sentidos’ escrevi sobre vários
exemplos de comunidades que protegem o seu ambiente (Apo, nas Filipinas…) pois “uma
sociedade não se define só pelo que cria, mas pelo que se nega a destruir”
(John Sawhill).
Agora, o magnifico vídeo ‘Home’,
promovido pela organização www.goodplanet.org
(vale a pena deleitar-se com o filme de 1h33m e apoiar esta iniciativa), já com
mais de 9 milhões de visitas no youtube, utiliza a máxima “basta deixar de
escavar a terra e levantar os olhos para o céu” (referência aos benefícios da
energia solar sobre a exploração de petróleo) para apontar mais exemplos de
boas práticas: o programa nacional de reflorestação da Coreia do Sul elevou
para 65% a superfície do país coberta por floresta; optando entre gastos
militares e preservação do território, a decisão da Costa Rica foi clara –
deixou de ter exército; o corte seletivo instituído no Gabão não permite cortar
mais de uma árvore por hectare; o eco-bairro de Freiburg levanta a curiosidade
por toda a Europa; 20% da energia consumida na Dinamarca é obtida através de
turbinas eólicas instaladas no mar…

We
point our finger a lot to bad environmental practices and care little about
sharing the good examples. On my book ‘Os
novos exploradores lusos e a aventura dos sentidos’ I wrote about several
examples of communities that protect their Environment (Apo, in the Philippines…),
because “a society is not defined only
by what it creates but also by what it refuses to destroy” (John Sawhill).
Now,
the magnificent video ‘Home’, promoted by www.goodplanet.org
(it’s worth to enjoy the 1h33’ movie and support the initiative), already with
over 9 million views on youtube, uses the sentence “just stop excavating the
soil and rise the eyes to the ski” (reference to the benefits of solar energy
opposite to oil digging) to point out a few other examples of good practices: the
national reforestation program of South Korea allowed the forest to rise up to
65% of the country surface; having to choose between military spending and
environmental preservation, Costa Rica’s decision was clear – they have no army
anymore; selective cutting was established in Gabon and it is not allowed to
cut more than one tree per hectare; the eco city of Freiburg is rising curiosity
all over Europe; 20% of the energy consumption in Denmark is obtained through
