The Paraguaçú at Feira Náutica do Tejo, with the support of Marina de Lagos.

Probably one of the most looked at boats...

Jobs and... the Environmental Day

The environment can be part of the solution for the crisis! Non fossil energies could create 60.000 jobs in Portugal, until 2015!

The ‘Rio +20’ Summit will take place in Brazil, in 20-22 June. Ban Ki-Moon, ONU’s secretary general, stimulates the youth of the world to “make noise” to speed up negotiations.

There is a good reason for all of this: as we destroy the green areas in the name of progress we are only harming ourselves. Cities may be easier to live in but they don’t assure basic needs! Humanity developed a pre-programed response to plants. Studies demonstrate that we have “less stress and that our minds work better when there are plants around us”. Metro journal (21.05.12) quotes Virgina Lohr, teacher at the Washington University. Plants “make us calmer and less violent”. That is another reason to take care of the forests.

5th June is the International Day of the Environment (the 8th is the International Day of the Oceans): Paraguaçú congratulates and associates itself to these celebrations!

News for the next weeks... / Las próximas semanas...

Paraguaçú is going to get wet in the Aviz dam, between the 24th and 30th May. We will be supported by the 4 stars hotel  www.herdadedacortesia.com. The following week, the boat will be exposed in Lisbon, www.feiranauticadotejo.pt. After the 15th June daily trainings will take place along the beaches of the Algarve, starting from Lagos, with the support of www.marlagos.pt. Between the 1st and the 15th August, there will be a series of crossings in the Algarve, together with the open waters swimmer, Miguel Arrobas, also starting from Lagos.

Entrada libre!

Take a guess...

This is the spot where the logos and names of the supporters will show on the Paraguaçú!

Solutions start by recognizing mistakes!

Jeffrey Sachs (in ‘The end of poverty’) wrote: “The main cause of long term Climate Changing, the combustion of fossil energies, is, disproportionately, the result of the rich countries actions”.
To apply solutions one has to recognize mistakes!
The Spanish minister in charge of the energetic area says he is “tired of sustainable energy talk”... The president Rajoy comes after and says: “what do we know about what is going to happen to the planet in 300 years!?” Meaning something like ‘who cares about Conservation in the present’! But, Mr. Rajoy, we are talking about only a few decades in advance! The best example comes from Tanzania: scientists say ‘eternal snows’ will disappear from the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro already between 2015 and 2020! Droughts and violent storms that have affected this privileged corner of Europe also should give him something to think about: “We already know what to do about global warming, the most difficult part seams to be”, said the journalist (canal 24h, 22.03.12), “to accommodate the rhythms of politics to the timings of the planet”!
